Advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, said it has become imperative for Nagas to learn Hindi if Nagas are to expand their horizons beyond Nagaland State.

The Advisor said Hindi being the official language of the country, it become imperative for Nagas who pursue education and seek employment outside the state, especially in the mainland. Zhaleo said the same goes for Naga entrepreneurs and businessmen having business link and trades outside the state, as learning Hindi would be a bonus point.

Even in the Nagaland, various such sectors such as tourism would get a boost if the local citizens including tourist guides, taxi drivers, and hotel employees know are conversant with Hindi, Zhaleo said and cited the Hornbill Festival where majority of the domestic tourists are from the mainland.

Zhaleo was speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of All Nagaland Hindi Teachers Union (ANHTU), Dimapur Unit -cum- 26th State Level Hindi Diwas 2019, held at Town Hall on Friday.

Terming teachers as backbone of the society and that the future of the children are in the hands of teachers, the advisor called upon teachers to rededicate themselves to the noble and sacred profession.

He said though the state government has introduced concept of communitization in a number of sectors including education, power and water supply, but this does not mean that the department concerned or employees should throw all responsibilities to the village councils or committees alone.

Referring to the “proxy” and “ghost” teachers dogging the Education department, Zhaleo said if Hindi cannot be promoted in the state, then the stakeholders including teachers and the department should also take the lame.

Additional director, School Education, Razouseyi Vese, in his address also underscored the importance of learning other languages. He said a person who is versed in other languages acquires additional knowledge and wisdom. The additional director expressed happiness that unlike in the past, today many Naga youth and children can speak fluently and sing beautifully in Hindi.

Vese said the Education department was doing its best to promote Hindi language even in remote corners of the State and working to upgrade the diploma-level Hindi institutes in the state to colleges, so that Naga students do not have to go outside to acquire a degree in Hindi.

While greeting the Hindi teachers on the occasion of silver jubilee-cum-Hindi Diwas, Vese also called upon the teachers to introspect on how far the state has come in terms of learning and teaching Hindi.

On the occasion, Zhaleo gave away awards and certificates to students who won in various literary competitions and Vese released the jubilee souvenir.
