Imphal: Around 20 curfew violators tested COVID-19 positive

IMPHAL, June 3 (NNN): Around 20 curfew violators were found to have been infected by COVID-19 as testing of curfew violators continued on Thursday.

Official sources said that Imphal city police today rounded up around 200 persons who came out on the streets at Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar and subjected them to COVID-19 tests.

Among them, around 20 of them were tested positive and sent to Covid care centres for necessary medical treatment.

In Manipur, state health authority has been conducting random testing of curfew violators joining hands with the police and respective district administrations as a part of aggressive mass testing commenced from June 1.

Meanwhile, in the continue crackdown against violators of COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions issued by the state government and the state disaster management from time to time, the police today penalised as many as 176 persons and released after slapping fines amounting to Rs 54,760, a police press release said.

Including today’s drive, the state police have so far penalised a total of 1,44,163 and collected Rs 2,17,12,910 as fines together.

A total of 51,850 vehicles were also detained and released after warning, the police said.

The police have been cracking down against those who failed to wear face masks in the public places, failure to maintain social distancing and spitting at public places among others.
