Improved “Old British Road” inaugurated

An Improved “Old British Road” at Pfürü, D.Khel Kohima Village located at some 20 Km away from the Capital town, was inaugurated by Conservator of Forest (RPW), Dhamendra Prakash here today.

The said road, once served as connection between the present day Kohima District and Phek District via NH 61. The road is improved through the “Integrated Forest Protection Scheme (IFPS)” with an amount of Rs 4.4 lakh by the Kohima Forest Division. 

Prakesh said the Forest department is proposing the Bamboo Training Centre for the North eastern state to be setup at Pfürü, where the department already has Forest Land of 64 hectare, to which some more hectares of land will be added to. Proposal for the said Bamboo Training Centre has already been send to the Government for approval he said.  

He also exhorted villager to be undisputable in matters of selling land to the Government. He appreciate the contribution of the D. Khel Joint Forest Management Committee in well and timely completion of improvement work of the road and also ask for their active participation in future project taken up by the department in the area.  

After the Britisher left, the road was left neglected by the Government, however every year the D. khel community took up the work of repairing and maintenance of the Road, till the Forest Department took up the improvement works of the road in 2005-06, as the road serve in covering distant from BSF camp to the Dzü river area shorter by 2 to 3 km through which the NH 61 passes, and also with uncertainty of the weather affecting the road condition now and then, the D. Khel leaders in the late 90’s asked the then MLAs of Phek district for co-operation in repairing the road, however the later took no interest in it, lamented JFMC chairmen Zotuo Kire, who gave brief report of the road. He however thanks the department for taking in the interest of village farmers in particular and in general its activities in the area.    

The programme was chair by Razoupfelie Kire Vice Chairman, D.Khel Council who also say the Welcome address, Khrielie Keretsü, Secretary, D.Khel Council said the vote of thanks. District Forest Officer (DFO) Kohima, Amemba Yaden and ACF Zotoho accompanied CF (RPW) Prakash to the function
