Against the backdrop of agitations called by the Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) and Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), the State Cabinet in its meeting held today, April 21 took three major decisions on the current issues plaguing the state.

The three major decisions taken on the issues were mainstreaming of SSA & RMSA teachers, superannuation age of government doctors and non-inclusion of exempted government departments in NSSB regulations 2020.

Speaking to ome media personnel following the meeting, Advisor and State spokesperson, Mmhonlumo Kikon said three major decisions have been taken by the Cabinet after a lengthy discussion.

On increasing of superannuation age of government doctors, Kikon said the Cabinet has made a decision with a condition of ‘re-employment.’

“The Cabinet has carefully studied the matter, and decision has been made that the extension of services to 62 years will be given under one condition that they will be reemployed in the clinical sector till 62 years” informed Kikon.

He informed that for those who are interested/want to apply for working in the Medical College, the age limit has been increased to 65 years. “They will not get their pension, however, they will be reemployed and recruitment process will be smoothly done without any hiccups because of the experiences they have,” added Kikon.

For those interested, Kikon said that although they will not hold any administrative post, they will be allowed to work in the hospitals and as ‘reemployed doctors.’

Approves mainstreaming of SSA and RMSA
On the issue of the mainstreaming SSA & RMSA teachers (2010 & 2013 batches), Kikon informed that the Cabinet has approved the demand and the same will be included in the School Education cadre.

However, he said that the teachers have to undergo a final verification of their documents. The 2,311 SSA & RMSA teachers have been categorised into three groups.

Those whose documents have already been verified for B.Ed., DIET etc have to be re-verified. Secondly, he informed there are 10 teachers whose documents have not been verified because the institutions have not responded to the department; this has to be verified. Meanwhile, 11 teachers were found with fraudulent certificates wherein show cause notices have been served to them.

‘Exempted’ depts to come under NSSB
Meanwhile, as the ENSF called for an indefinite agitation from April 21 at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat demanding inclusion of exempted departments from the purview of NSSB, Kikon said the Cabinet has in principle agreed to include all those departments which didn’t come under the purview of NSSB 2020.

The departments which were earlier exempted from the purview of NSSB are the Home Department and its allied departments including Police, Prisons, Nagaland Lokayukta, NPTO, Home Guard and Civil Defence and Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Excise and Forest Guards.

Kikon said the Cabinet sub-committee will meet the ENSF to work out modalities in the days to come. In the light of this decision, he urged the ENSF to call off the agitation.

Speaking at the sideline of the agitation called by the ENSF, Kegwayhun Tep, NSF president asserted that NSSB should be made functional at the earliest.

He observed that in Nagaland until and unless the public come to the street, the voice for justice of the aggrieved is never heard, adding that the protest called by the ENSF is very genuine.

“The aspirants and young students who are unemployed and are more than prepared for any competitive exam are exhausted and tired because examination has not been conducted for almost two years” said Tep.

To this end, Tep appealed to the state government to call the two federations (ENSF & NSF) so that differences can be worked out, and draw out a clear road map to ensure that NSSB is made functional at the earliest possible time with clarity.
