The stage is set for the inaugural Mokokchung Inter-School Basketball Tournament 2025, scheduled to take place from July 10 to 12 at the Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung Town. Organized by the Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) under the aegis of the Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA), the tournament is being dubbed the first of its kind organized under a formal sports body in the district.

Held under the theme “Forging Future,” the tournament seeks to promote basketball at the grassroots level, foster discipline, teamwork, and leadership among students, and lay the foundation for what is envisioned to become an annual district-wide sporting event.

According to Tutu Jamir, Convenor of the Organizing Committee, a total of 13 teams—comprising 9 boys’ teams and 4 girls’ teams—from 9 schools across Mokokchung district have confirmed their participation. Among them are three schools from outside Mokokchung town: Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School, Impur; Yajen Aier Government High School, Mopungchuket; and Changki Government High School.

Schools from Mokokchung town confirmed to participate include Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS), Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, Eden Academy, Christian Residential Higher Secondary School, Straightway Higher Secondary School, and Town Higher Secondary School. Notably, QMHSS—previously known for hosting smaller-scale inter-school basketball meets—will now participate in this more formal and expansive tournament structure.

In preparation for the event, BAMD has launched a comprehensive mentorship programme involving ten volunteer coaches conducting training sessions twice daily at the tournament venue. Approximately 65 students are currently undergoing training, with players from QMHSS being coached by their in-house sports instructor. Outstation teams will receive coaching upon arrival prior to the tournament.

To facilitate broader participation, BAMD has also made arrangements for lodging facilities for outstation teams and has reiterated that registration remains open to all high schools and higher secondary schools in the district, including those from subdivisions, towns, and villages.Schools interested in joining the tournament are encouraged to contact BAMD directly for registration and further guidelines.
