
Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): A total of 393 private satellite news TV channels are authorised by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
These channels operate under the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of Satellite TV Channels, according to a written reply by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Minister of Railways, and Minister of Electronics and Information Technology , in the Rajya Sabha on July 26.
The list of TV channels is available on the Broadcast Seva Portal of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he added.
Among these listed is Hornbill TV from Nagaland, operated by Hornbill Entertainment Private Limited.
As per the information on the portal, Hornbill TV, deals in ‘NEWS and Current Affairs,’ and broadcasts in Nagamese, English, Hindi, and all Indian Scheduled Languages, as per the information on the portal.
The Hornbill TV parent company was incorporated on December 9, 2020, as a private "Company Limited by Shares" and is headquartered in Dimapur, according to records on the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
According to the Broadcast Seva Portal, among the North-East States, only Manipur and Nagaland do not have private FM channels. However, Nagaland is home to two Community Radio Stations (CRS).
Meanwhile, the Minister’s reply revealed that over 3,700 digital news publishers have submitted information under Rule 18 of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
