DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 1 (MExN): India international Stuart Binny will play for the Nagaland State team in the upcoming BCCI domestic season.
“We wanted a big name to come down and mentor the boys so that they can learn from someone. Binny was excited right from the word go,” NCA Joint Secretary, A Rahman was quoted by media outlets as stating on Sunday.
“When we had released the outstation players from last season, we wanted to have somebody with experience. Along with that, we have a good balance in wicketkeeper-batsman Takawale and medium-pacer Mundhe. We have also groomed our local players Imliwati Lemtur, Tahmeed Rahman, Sedezhalie Rupreo,” he added.
Binny had a solid domestic season in 2013-14, scoring 443 runs at 43.22 and taking 14 wickets. He played a key role in Karnataka’s storming run to the Ranji Trophy title. He was subsequently picked for the tour of New Zealand. Later on the tour of Bangladesh, he registered sensational figures of 6 for 4, the best by an Indian bowler in ODIs, in the second ODI in Mirpur. In the same year, he made his Test debut too during the tour of England.
The 35-year-old all-rounder from Bengaluru will now represent Nagaland in the upcoming BCCI domestic season after several rounds of discussion. Binny had to receive a no-objection certificate from his State association and produce it to be open to for a new side.
Binny is expected to join Nagaland’s pre-season camp at the Sovima Cricket Ground in Dimapur by September 10.
