KOHIMA, OCTOBER 28 (MExN): The Indian Army observed the 78th Infantry Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas, with solemn ceremonies at Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur and Zakhama Military Station in Nagaland.
The day commemorates the successful landing of the Indian Army at Srinagar Airfield on October 27, 1947, which played a crucial role in preventing the invasion of Kashmir by Pakistani tribal forces, a press release issued by PRO and Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh stated.
Ceremonies included wreath-laying at war memorials in both locations, honouring the valour and sacrifices of fallen Infantry soldiers. A special documentary was screened, highlighting the contributions of the Corps of Infantry in various operations and emphasizing their vital role in safeguarding the nation.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division, along with officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, soldiers, and veterans, paid homage to those who served, symbolizing the enduring bond between generations of soldiers and their unwavering commitment to duty.
This commemoration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Infantry in the service of the country and the ongoing dedication of current and former soldiers.
