The Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Nagaland, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute of Coldwater Fisheries Research (ICAR-CICFR), Bhimtal today conducted an Input Distribution Programme for 200 fish farmers at Kohima under the North Eastern Region (NER) Activity of ICAR-Central Institute of Coldwater Fisheries Research (ICAR-CICFR), Bhimtal, Uttarakhand.
The programme aimed to strengthen the livelihoods of fish farmers by equipping them with essential tools and technologies to improve fish production and management practices.
A range of inputs including plastic crates, ice boxes, hand nets, pH meters, thermometers, and water analysis kits were distributed to the farmers.
These materials were provided by ICAR-CICFR, Bhimtal under its NER budget to support fisheries development in Nagaland.
The event was coordinated by Neithoo Kuotsu, Joint Director, and was attended by Senior officials of the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Nagaland, reflecting the department’s commitment to enhancing the fisheries sector in the state.
The initiative is expected to boost scientific fish farming practices and improve post-harvest handling among beneficiaries.
Dr. Amit Pande, Director of ICAR-CICFR, Bhimtal, conveyed his message emphasizing the institute’s continued dedication to the development of coldwater fisheries and allied sectors in the North Eastern Region.
He highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for empowering farmers with modern tools and knowledge, thereby ensuring sustainable growth and increased income opportunities.
Rongsennunba Ao, Director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Govt of Nagaland expressed his sincere gratitude to the Director of ICAR-CICFR, Bhimtal and also Dr. Sumanta Kumar Mallik, Nodal Officer (NER), ICAR-CICFR, Bhimtal, for his whole-hearted efforts and proactive coordination in facilitating the provision of inputs under the NER Activity.
His support played a vital role in the successful implementation of the programme, the director said.
The programme marks another significant step towards strengthening fisheries-based livelihoods in Nagaland and promoting sustainable aquaculture practices in the region.
