Mon, July 26 (MExN): Integrated STI, HIV, TB and Hepatitis (ISHTH) campaign was launched at District Jail, Mon by Ajit Kumar Verma IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mon on July 26.

The DC Mon while launching ISHTH campaign said that the Government cares for the prisoners in the jail and therefore, the district administration, doctors, medical staffs were sent to launch the campaign at their doorstep inorder to improve their health and to make them understand better lifestyle. 

However, he said, “Unless one is determined to improve oneself, the programme will not be a successful one” and requested all the participants to be positive and share their problems to the health personnel while the services are available.

In the keynote address, Dr Vezokholu Theyo, CMO, Mon said that the aim of the campaign is to achieve HIV free India by 2023 and the sustainable development goal is to end the epidemic of HIV & AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. In this campaign, the authorities will try to identify the intensity of the epidemic and strategies intervention to ensure no population is left out, she noted.

“Medical department alone cannot make it,” she said, “but with the support from the District Administration, social welfare, DAPCU, the team has confidently marched forward to launch the programme at District Jail with immense hope that the programme will be a successful one.”

She announced that the prisoners today will be given free health check-ups, free medicines and awareness sessions on HIV and STI, TB, Hepatitis and Mental Health.

The programme was chaired by Longyim Tzudir, DPO, DAPCU, Mon and vote of thanks was delivered by H Bangwao K, Superintendent, District Jail, Mon.

Awareness sessions were conducted on HIV and STI by Dr Imlienla, MO, FI-ARTC, DH Mon; Tuberculosis by Dr Tinenlo James Katiwa, DTO & DAPCU, Mon; Hepatitis by Dr AP Lemwang, Nodal Officer, Treatment Centre (NVHCP), DH Mon; Mental Health by Linokali Sumi, Clinical Psychologists, DMHP, Mon.

A total of 70 prisoners availed the health check-up and voluntary screening of STI, HIV, TB and Hepatitis. This was stated in a press release issued by Leeyan Chemshy, Media Officer, NHM Mon.
