Assistant Security Commissioner of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Dimapur post, Bimal Chandra Das, sought the cooperation of the public in curbing illegal activities on railway property.

Das, who addressed a press conference on April 4, after recently taking charge of the Dimapur RPF post, said that it will be his endeavour to secure the railways and the safety of its passengers.

While the RPF is committed to preventing the use of the railways as a conduit for transporting illegal substances and human trafficking, he said that theft of passenger belongings is a frequently reported crime. In this regard, he called for alertness and making use of the toll free railway helpline number 139 for assistance or complaint.

In response to a query, he replied that they will be clamping down on illegal activities like gambling and substance abuse on railway property, particularly the railway bazaar area.

As per data released by the RPF Dimapur post, over the past few months, it has rescued 3 women and 20 minors (7 girls and 13 boys).

Under Operation NARCOS, suspected brown sugar valued at a combined Rs 51 lakh was seized, while Smuggled Goods of Foreign Origins (SGFO) valued at an estimated Rs 1.99 lakh was recovered and two arrested.

As many as 182 persons were arrested in connection with 176 cases under the Railway Act.

Further, noting a negligible presence of Nagas in the RPF, Das appealed to the youths to apply for jobs in the RPF. He informed that the RPF has advertised over 4200 posts of constables and sub Inspectors in 2024, with the last date of application on May 14.
