
DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 16 (DIPR): State Governor K. Sankaranarayanan graced the Passing out Parade of the 33rd batch of Basic Course of Police Officers at NEPA, Shillong on December 15. Addressing the Police officers from Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura, the Governor said that the role played by police officers in the North Eastern states, is all the more laudable on account of the difficult terrain as also the prevailing insurgency situation, particularly in Manipur and Nagaland.
Acknowledging the contribution of NEPA for the last 30 years towards shaping police officers of the North-Eastern states he said that this ‘common training infrastructure’ has ensured a uniform pattern of police training in line with the vision of Sardar Patel who laid the foundations of Police and administration in the country after independence.
Stating that police service symbolizes courage, sacrifice and dedication, the Governor called upon the police officers to maintain high standards of professional excellence, integrity and honesty. He reminded the officers that they have the primary responsibility of maintaining public order and peace and to enforce rule of law. Noting that the most dangerous threat today is terrorism, the Governor stressed on the need to improve surveillance and intelligence to ensure that such elements do not get any support from within. ‘Intelligence sharing across police stations, districts and states is vital to control this menace’, he stated.
The Governor also called upon the Police officers to create an atmosphere of security among all citizens. He urged them to make all out efforts to change the image of the police and make it a force that looks after one and all. He also lauded the Director of the academy and the instructors for successfully conducting the basic training course.
