Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): The Inter Battalion Football Championship of the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School was held at Sukhovi ground from February 24 to 28. The final was played on February 28 between the Lakhimpur and Diphu Training Battalion.
A pres note received here stated that Brigadier Vijay Singh, SM, Commandant ARTC&S was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In the closely contested final match both the teams displayed excellent football skills and scored one goal each till the end of the first half. Rifleman Ranjit Oran of the Lakhimpur Training Battalion netted the ball in the 4th minute and got an early opener for his team, whereas Rect T P Bhutia scored the equaliser for the Diphu Training Battalion in 34th minute through a header.
In the second half, both teams came out with a strategy of planned attack on the rivals goal and a see-saw battle ensued from the very first minute. The Diphu Training Battalion took an edge over their rivals in 79th minute when Havildar Jordan Lepcha scored a field goal through a pass received from a corner cick. Players of Lakhimpur Training Battalion tried their level best to equalise and make a comeback in the game but could not score till the last moment of the match and finally Diphu Training Battalion emerged as the Champions with a score of 2 – 1, the note said.
