The Second Edition of the Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament 2024 was officially inaugurated on Thursday at the Multi-Sports Complex in Mokokchung. Organized by the Mokokchung district administration, the tournament aims to promote unity and teamwork among the district’s various government departments through the spirit of sportsmanship.
Delivering greetings on behalf of the Ao Senden, Aowati Ozukum, Vice President of Ao Senden, highlighted the broader impact of the tournament. “This tournament is an eye-opener for the people, helping them understand the value of sports. It fosters unity among the departments and will hopefully nurture athletes who will rise to greater heights,” said Ozukum. He also urged government employees to use their collective wisdom for the development of Mokokchung, encouraging them to “join hands to make a better Mokokchung.”
As part of the program, the District Executive Force, winners of the 2023 tournament, ceremoniously handed over the Championship Trophy to Chumlamo Humtsoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and convener of this year’s event.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, ADC Chumlamo Humtsoe expressed optimism about the tournament’s success. “This event is not just about the games. It’s an opportunity for government employees to come together, build relationships, and improve future collaborations. I’m confident that this year’s edition will be just as successful as the last.”
The three-day tournament will feature a variety of sports, including futsal, badminton, table tennis, carrom, chess, and arm wrestling. More than 60 departments from across the district are participating.
Other highlights of the program included a welcome address from Thsuvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, the administration of the athlete’s oath by Anguvito Sumi, District Sports Officer, and a special musical performance by students from Fazl Ali College.
