Bringing a sigh of relief to the truckers operating along National Highway-29 between Kohima- Dimapur, the Inter State Truck Terminus (ISTT) Kohima was inaugurated by Nagaland’s Transport & Technical Education, Advisor Temjenmenba on May 30.

ISTT, Kohima is located nearby Kohima-bypass road.

Addressing the inaugural function, Temjenmenba maintained that the truck terminus is a much-needed facility, which will ease traffic problem to a great extent. He called upon the truckers to make the best use of the provided facility. He also called upon the transport department to properly manage this asset to generate revenue for the state.

Further, Temjenmenba urged upon the department to come out with innovative ideas to ensure that it become one of the highest revenue-generating departments in the state.

Also speaking on the occasion, Athrila S Sangtam, Joint Secretary to Govt of Nagaland, Transport Department, hoped that with this much needed infrastructure in place, the problem/inconveniences being faced by the truckers will be addressed to a great extent.

The programme was chaired by A Limasunep Jamir, Additional General Manager NST. Kezhakietuo Belho, Associate Pastor, Khedi Baptist Church Kohima invoked God’s blessing. Vote of thanks was proposed by Vikiho H Yepthomi, Joint General Manager, NST.
 
Details of ISTT Kohima
Nagaland State Transport (NST) General Manager Shikaho P Yeptho said that feeling the need for having an ISTT at Kohima to cater to transportation need of the local as well as to and fro Truck Operators operating on Inter State route towards Manipur, the state government had approached for construction of an ISTT to North Eastern Council (NEC) and the construction work started in 2015 and completed on April 2023.

The Project was conceptualized during 2010-2011 with an aim to provide adequate parking for Infra-State and Inter-State Transport of essential and commercial goods trucks at Kohima near NH-29.

The objective is to decongest the traffic of capital city Kohima and for transshipping of goods to interior parts of the state.

The ISTT will not only facilitate safe and secured parking but also curb the stranded vehicles as well as haphazard parking in the National Highway and alleviate road accident caused due to traffic congestion in the Highway, he said.

This project was supervised and executed under the Civil engineering wing of the Department headed by Executive Engineer (Const).

The M/S Viu Angami & Sons has carried out the project with commendable workmanship though the rate of construction was at NPWD SoR 2013 without any claim for rate enhancement, he said.

Yeptho said that many NEC officials during their visit to Nagaland had inspected this project on several occasions, especially Navind Kumar, Advisor (T&C) and Er. M. Kalita SE, NEC who also commended on the workmanship of the project.

The Department extended gratitude to the NEC and all those involved for completion of the project.
