Interfaith workshop focuses on dialogue, conflict transformation

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, DECEMBER 10 (MExN): Peace Channel, in collaboration with the Rubaroo Organisation, conducted a four-day interfaith youth leadership workshop titled “Agaaz-e-Baatcheet” at the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR). The programme aimed to train Youth Champions with skills in dialogue, understanding and peace building.

Over the four days, participants took part in interactive sessions designed to deepen their understanding of interfaith relations and strengthen youth leadership. Organisers noted that interfaith understanding is essential in an increasingly diverse society, helping young people reduce prejudice, challenge stereotypes and build respectful relationships across different belief systems.

The workshop began with an orientation on the concept of a Youth Champion, followed by sessions on conflict analysis, where participants examined the roots of conflict, personal biases and approaches to conflict transformation. A session on understanding faith and religion enabled participants to explore diverse religious identities and practices.

Modules on breaking stereotypes and value prioritisation encouraged participants to confront preconceived notions, reflect on their core values and develop value-driven action plans.

Resource persons included Barnic Raijianlung Gangmei, Assistant Professor at NEISSR; Ashela Teresa, Project Coordinator at Peace Channel; and James Phanungkiu, also Project Coordinator at Peace Channel. The workshop was facilitated by Pezangulie Suokhrie and Saziini Chache, alumni of the Rubaroo Interfaith Workshop.

The organisers said the programme provided a platform for young people to engage in meaningful conversations and build bridges across faiths and cultures, reaffirming their commitment to empowering youth as ambassadors of peace and interfaith harmony.
