Zunheboto, May 21 (DIPR): International Candlelight Memorial Service was organised for HIV infected people with Boholi, President Sümi Totimi Hoho, Zunheboto Unit as guest speaker on May 20 at Youth Hall, Zunheboto. The programme was organised by DAPCU.
While delivering her speech, Boholi called out to people for cooperation to tackle this problem and expressed concern to extend love and sympathy to infected persons, stating that HIV & AIDS is not only medical problem, rather it is affecting the people in all walks of life.
She further stated that the preventive measures are being taken so as to reduce the infection and menace caused by HIV & AIDS disease and in this aspect the role of society is needed to prevent further infection of HIV, adding that it will sustain the lives of infected and do away with stigma and rejection from normal people and to encourage HIV patient to enable them to deliver their testimony boldly so as to prevent further spreading to normal people."Time has come for the society to stand up to fight the HIV & AIDS Menace", she stated.
Guest speaker also pointed out that 70 Million people are infected with HIV worldwide, out of which 30 Million died of HIV infection and 62 thousand died of AIDS and in Nagaland it is recorded that the 22 thousand people are infected with HIV out of which Zunheboto district has 206 infected people and 41 people were dead of AIDS.
Sharing on significance of the day was given by Hokishe Chophy, DIS DAPCU. Vice president of STH Zunheboto unit chaired the programme while Kalito NZP+VIHAAN delivered a short speech.
