International Children’s Film Festival in Nagaland

Kohima, July 24 (MExN): The Children's Film Society of India (CFSI), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting with the support of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) is organising for the first time International Children's Film Festival, 2017 in Nagaland from July 27-29 at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music & Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma. The festival begins at 10:00 am on July 27.   Being the first edition to be arriving in Nagaland, the festival comes with the hope of bringing a range of nationally and internationally acclaimed children’s movies, said a press release from Supriya Rohit, Artistic Director, Cinedarbaar and Asano Sekhose, Chairperson, NBSE.   The festival will be inaugurated by Dr. Shravan Kumar, CEO, CFSI and Asano Sekhose, Chairperson NBSE. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by cultural performance, a Zeliang folk dance by Benreu Students’ Union, Kohima, and solo by Neingusalie Yano, Music Topper, HSLC Examination 2017.   The film festival will begin with screening of Kauwboy directed by Boudewijn Koole. This Dutch film tells a story about a difficult life of a 10-year-old in his family. Every day, films from different countries such as Russia, Germany, Netherlands, India etc. will be shown for children to experience different culture through the world of movies.   Apart from screening movies from regional and international directors, the festival will also serve as a platform to showcase the movies made by children from countries like Taiwan, UAE, and Belgium, among others. The film screenings will be followed by quiz where prizes will be distributed to children for correct answers.   With an aim to promote arts in general and film-making in particular, Rajkumar will conduct an exclusive 3-day workshop called Little Director Workshop which will be attended by 20 children from a few selected schools of Nagaland. Rajkumar has trained under Barry John and Padmini Kolhapure School of Acting and has been associated with theatre for more than a decade. He has worked extensively with children on mentoring them to work on short films for many years, the release said.   Another delight will be the series of film making workshop where Nikhil Kulshrestha will conduct three workshops, one on each day. The workshops will be on The Grammar of film making, expressing your creativity through mobile phones and an overview on film making. Nikhil is currently based in Mumbai and has worked on several ad campaigns, TV series, and on documentaries as director.   The festival will also have series of competitions for children to encourage them to explore their creative sides such as Script writing and Story Board writing competitions. All children can participate and submit their write ups to the organizers. The winners will be awarded. There will also be a special talk on creative expression through social media to give youth guidance on how social media can help them reach out and explore their talents.   Throughout the festival, many film experts from Delhi, Mumbai and Nagaland will entertain and enlighten the children through quiz, film appreciation sessions and discussions, while also acquainting them with the skills of understanding the nuances of movies and the techniques of film review writing.   More than 1000 students from across Nagaland are expected to attend the festival.
