‘Invoke Art 3 for Naga integration’

DIMAPUR, JAN 18 (MExN): A civil body seeking integration of all Naga-inhabited areas has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up in Parliament the issue of an “ultimate solution on Naga integration” with reference to Article 3 of the Constitution of India, basing on the 13th point of the 16-point agreement signed between the Centre and the Naga People’s Convention in 1960.

Pulling up point 13 of the agreement which states that the contiguous Naga areas can join or integrate with Nagaland without a binding on time, the memorandum prepared by Mass Movement for Entire Naga Inhabited Areas Integration, Unity, Solidarity Front (MMENIAIUSF) states the Nagas wish to live “together as one family, one people, one land, one solution, under an administration.”

Reposing confidence and trust on the UPA Government headed by Dr Singh, the body placed a charter of demands on the grounds of “unity, security, integrity of the country.” The charter calls for the installation of the states reorganization commission, appointment of a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to the said commission, the implementation of the 13th point of the 16-point agreement and convening of Parliament to discuss the issue.
