IPR holds media consultations on press creditation

KOHIMA, MAY 29 (DIPR): The Commissioner & Secretary IPR Viketol Sakhrie held a consultative meeting with the media representatives on May 29 at Hotel Japfü, Kohima. The meeting was attended by Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs, Director IPR with officers, DDG (Field Publicity), DDK, AIR, Press Secretary to CM, Editors, Presidents of Kohima Press Club and Dimapur Press Club, UNI and PTI representatives and Journalists from Kohima and Dimapur.

The meeting was convened to deliberate on the uniform model of Accreditation Rules, formulated by the Press Council of India (PCI). The gathering shared views on the proposed model and expressed desire to adopt it with local situations taken into consideration, for which another session was agreed to be held in the month of June, by a select representative body. Some views expressed were : a) that two representatives from the Press Clubs be included in the Accreditation Committee, (b) that the Accreditation Committee be only at the State level, (c) that Chairman of the Accreditation Committee be a Journalist and (d) that accredited journalist be granted status of a Class II Gazetted Officer.

The meeting also discussed other facilities to the media such as media rooms at the Directorate Office of IPR and Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Press Club Buildings, Advertisement Rates and channel of advertising and payments. Media accompaniments at VIP tours and room reservations and Media Welfare Fund were also discussed. Central Government Media organizations and their related problems were also shared and if communicated to the State Government, they would be taken up with the Ministry. A separate meeting with the Editors and publishers were suggested to be convened soon. The informal consultative meet was cordial and fruitful.
