IRB in Chattisgarh doing well : Kheto

KOHIMA: Allaying public fear and concern over the deployment of 9th IRB of Nagaland Police to Chattisgarh State the Nagaland Minister for Forest and IPR Kheto said that sending one of the best IRB units to that State was to win the minds of the people and to provide a feeling of security from the terror of Naxalites.

Talking to media persons in his office chamber in Kohima today the Minister said that sending the 9th IRB to Chattisgarh should not be viewed as an act of punishment. He made it clear that deployment of at least 1 IRB unit outside the State was mandatory as per the conditions laid down by the Ministry of Home Affairs and therefore pointed out that sending out 1 IRB unit from each State is was inescapable. Referring to the operational aspects of the IRB in Chattisgarh and their living conditions Kheto said that Naga boys had proved they are second to none to answer to the call of duty, however difficult it is. They are well looked after by the Chattisgarh State the Minister added.

In the event of any casualty during operations in that uncharted territory of Naxalites prone area in Chattisgarh State the Minister said ex-gratia payment of Rs. 10 lakhs will be given to IRB personnel. Detachment allowances and special duty allowances are also being provided to the IRB personnel’s deployed there. Speaking on the occasion ADG Aonochet and IGP Opanglemba said that the IRB personnel who are deployed in Chattisgarh are provided with sophisticated weapons, night vision binoculars bullet proof jackets, communication kits, mind detectors etc. The two Police Officers also said IRB personnel’s were warmly welcomed by the people of Chattisgarh and the Naxalites who had harassed innocent people of that State were now terrified and they are on the run with the arrival of IRB. They also said several Naxalite activists were killed, seventeen were arrested, and several gangs were busted during operation by the IRB.

It was also disclosed that the State government has approved the Detachment Allowance and SDA which comes to Rs. 750 each per month. The same allowances are not applicable or entitled for other normal NAP personnel in the State.

One doctor has been provided with sufficient medicine to treat the personnel as and when they fall sick.

There are six coys in the battalion and each coy can spare 13 personnel at a time for leave which the personnel will be granted gradually as per their entitlement and this will be kept on rotation. During the leave period the personnel can leave for  their home and stay with their family after which they will go back to their duties. Leave Travel concession/travelling allowances will be granted to the personnel, source said.

Chattisgarh government has placed Helicopter service for the convenience and benefits of the personnel in case of any emergency for shifting of the personnel to Raipur from the interior places in Chattisgarh.
