“IRB must stop provocation”

Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): Stating “provocation, henceforth, shall not be tolerated,” the supervisor of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board and alee kilonser C Singson has described the “thuggish behavior of 12 Bn. IRB stationed at Kohima” as “extremely distasteful” and called for immediate disciplining by those in command. “It is unfortunate that a section of 12 IR at Kohima chose to display their arrogance and cowardice in the most repulsive manner”, Singson stated in a press note issued through the MIP. It was stated   that on the evening of  August 30 at around 6:30 PM, the “GPRN/NSCN” ‘chaplee’ secretary was accosted by a section of 12 Bn. IR at Agri-forest colony Junction, Jail Colony in Kohima. According to the note, the ‘chaplee secretary’ along with his bodyguard and another civilian were confronted with a barrage of abusive words which soon gave way to physical assault. “It was gruesome”, the press note stated of the incident.

Calling it “astonishing”, the note pointed out that even after the “GPRN/NSCN” official revealed his Identity Card issued under the ceasefire agreement between NSCN and the GoI, which allows the card holder to carry one firearm, the vehicle was thoroughly searched and arms taken away. The “GPRN/NSCN” has questioned as to whether the IRB personnel have the authority to throw away the ID card issued jointly by NSCN and the GOI. The note has termed it as extremely unfortunate that the IRB personnel displayed their “wanton attitude when clarity of thought and action was needed at that moment”.

The “GPRN/NSCN” has demanded the IRB top brass to immediately identify the erring 12 Bn. IRB personnel at Kohima, who caused physical injury and ‘mental trauma’ to the ‘chaplee secretary,’ his bodyguard and the lone civilian. Disciplinary action must be initiated against the guilty because this incident is a clear violation of operational procedures, stated the  note.
