To state the issue plainly, one of the major causes of traffic congestion in Dimapur is the manner in which many auto drivers operate. It is widely observed that a majority of these autos are operated by non-local drivers.
Autos frequently squeeze into every available space, including footpaths, cutting through traffic from all directions and creating chaos on the roads. When other road users patiently wait in line, auto drivers often refuse to follow the same discipline.
Such behaviour not only causes traffic congestion but also endangers pedestrians and other motorists. Traffic rules exist for everyone, and no category of vehicle should be exempt from complying with them.
In light of the above, I humbly request the Dimapur Traffic Police and Auto Unions to take immediate steps to:
• Strictly enforce traffic rules for all auto drivers
• Educate and instruct drivers on proper road discipline
• Penalize repeated violations without favoritism
Dimapur’s traffic situation will improve only when rules are applied equally and consistently. Public cooperation is possible only when enforcement is visible, fair, and firm.
I sincerely hope the concerned authorities will take this matter seriously in the interest of public safety and smoother traffic flow.
