DIMPUR, August 11 (MExN): Tetso College Dimapur celebrated its 13th Fresher’s Day today here at college campus with R. Khing, Parliamentary Secretary, Fire and Emergency Services and Cooperation Govt of Nagaland as the chief guest. The celebration was marked with fashion shows as well as a jam session from the students.
At the occasion, the chief guest while addressing the gathering reminded the students that the presence of “isms” in the Naga society should be done away with. Khing asserted that even though there might be different tribes and communities among the Nagas, the uniqueness of Naga culture and tradition confirms that the Nagas originated from a particular race group and are one.
R Khing further urged the student bodies to actively involve in doing away with such kind of “ism” present in the society which according to him, has hampered the social order to advance.
He also said that the present educational institution should not only impart theoretical education to the students but also equip them to be able to support themselves after passing out from the universities while maintaining that the students should have a set-target accompanied by dignity of labor. He also lamented the ‘fading of honesty and hard labor’ among the Naga society.
The principal of the college, Dr. P.S. Lorin also spoke during the function and encouraged the Freshers’ to boldly face the future and requested the seniors ‘not to lead the newcomers to the wrong path.’
The selection for Mr & Miss Freshers’ was also held. A total of 16 freshers contested in the two-round competition. Ikishe and Asune were adjudged as the winner of the 2006 title of Mr & Miss Fresher. A welcome song was also heard from the Evangelical Union of the college while the welcome note was delivered by Ruth, Finance Secretary, TCSU. The function was chaired by Nivibo, President EU and the vote of thanks was delivered by Kotso Medo, General Secretary, TCSU. The first session of the celebration ended with a benediction from Adono, Lecturer, Tetso College.
