Jalukie (MExN): The Jalukie Town Council in a bid to replenish the town and its suburbs with new and young trees, after its trees felling operation drew criticism from various sections, has started plantation with effect from today. As per the programme initiated by the JTC, different organizations including women, youths and GB bodies, besides representatives from every ward took part in the launching ceremony.
Amongst others, dominant tree species consisted of Deodar, Mango and Jack fruits which grow copiously in the region. The Deodars were provided by Reda Society Jalukie free of cost. Chairman of JTC, Gaubeu Rankau said that replacement would continue in the area where trees had been felled, by engaging daily wage earners and laborers as per availability of saplings. Justifying the felling of trees, after it drew criticism from some quarters, Rankau said that removing of tall and large Eucalyptus trees had actually helped in widening the roads. He also said that as Jalukie is prone to storm, removing Eucalyptus trees would help in averting accidents. Assuring that the trees would be well attended by employing care takers, the JTC sought the cooperation of public in maintaining the plantations.
