Jalukie Zangdi village in Peren district bordering Dimapur district celebrated its 32nd anniversary-cum-erection of village foundation stone on Tuesday with Masangum Hiekha, PS to Nagaland Chief Minister, as the chief guest.

Addressing Jalukie Zangdi villagers and invitees from neighbouring villages at the village local ground after unveiling the foundation monolith, Masangum, underscored the need to maintain peaceful and harmonious co-existence among neighbouring villages for mutual growth and prosperity.

He said if peace and understanding prevail among villages, then there would be greater interaction among the people and development too would reach nooks and corners. Masangum said of the total 15 villages established within the land jurisdiction of Old Jalukie Village, the parent village, Jalukie Zangdi occupies a strategic position as it is the corridor or gateway to Dimapur district.

“Old Jalukie village located on the mountain top is the head while Jalukie Zangdi situated in the valley is the leg. Being the leg it carries a heavy burden as it has to bear the weight of all other villages within Old Jalukie jurisdiction,” he said.

He said even as a father blesses his children to grow and prosper, likewise Old Jalukie Village has donated land to others to establish villages so that the villagers can prosper collectively through peaceful co-existence and mutual respect.

To this effect, Masangum lauded Jalukie Zangdi village for initiating and forging brotherhood among neighbouring villages, which he said is also a blessing in return to Old Jalukie village.

Village council chairman, Jalukie Zangdi, Bedusai Thulu-o, who narrated a brief history of the village, said the process of establishment of the village was started in 1978 led by his late father, and in 1981 Old Jalukie Village gave the go ahead signal and demarcated the village boundary. Jalukie Village was finally established on October 24, 1985, and the state government officially recognized the village on October 1, 1991.

The village has at present 119 households and a population of 563, the VCC informed. Hainkeing Hieka, VCC Old Jalukie Village, also extended greetings to Jalukie Zangdi villagers. Women folk of the village presented an indigenous song on the occasion. Theyeveyi Cheshu, head GB, proposed vote of thanks. Earlier, Cusarü Cheshu, the oldest man of the village invoked the blessings of the Almighty before unveiling of the monolith.
