Janata Dal (United)’s NEEC hails NRC

New Delhi, July 31 (MExN): The North East Executive Council (NEEC) of Janata Dal (United) has welcomed the declaration of the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which it said was a fulfillment of the tripartite Assam accord of 1985.   A press release from NEEC Coordinator Afaque Ahmed Khan and Chairman Senchumo (NSN) Lotha stated that the NRC released on July 30, 2018 was a “very historic occasion in the annals of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and other indigenous students unions and civil society's continuous struggle for the deletion and deportation of all illegal immigrants from Bangladesh irrespective of their religious affiliation.”   Meanwhile, it expressed concern for those genuine indigenous people whose names have not appeared in the final draft and urged them not to panic and fear for their existence. JD (U) assured that their rights will be protected.   It further appealed to the authority concerned to re-scrutinize the names that might have wrongly appeared in the present final draft and to delete them.   Further, the NEEC appealed to all the North East governments and the authority concerned to be vigilant in the wake of the declaration of the NRC and take necessary precautions to thwart any influx of illegal immigrants in their respective States.
