
Dimapur, February 4 (MExN): The 7th edition of Japukong Youth Organisation (JYO) volleyball tournament, half marathon and debate competition was held at Nokpu Village under the theme ‘Upliftment of local talents’ from January 16 to 18.
A press release stated here that on January 16, Metsubo Jamir, Minister for Urban Development and Municipal affairs attended the meet as the special guest. Rank and file of the NDPP Mokokchung Region also attended the inaugural function.
The Minister in his speech encouraged the participants to participate in the true spirit of sportsmanship. He encouraged the participants to be a good citizen, responsible and to outshine others in the field of sports as the players have the capacity to uphold the legacy of the pioneers. He also encouraged the JYO to continue the good work and also advised and encouraged them to incorporate women’s volleyball from the upcoming session for which he assured to sponsor the prize for three consecutive years for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. He also donated two lakh to the JYO.
The second day of the meet started with the half marathon, as first of its kind organized by JYO.
Benjongakum Longchar, Vice President All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) flagged of the event from the starting point i.e. Changdang Village. He encouraged the youths to represent the area and the State as a whole in different levels respectively. He added that the youths from the area should go out and participate in similar events organized by different organizations, groups and agencies.
During the evening session of the second day, a debate competition was held with 10 participants on the topic ‘Self employment is better than government job.’ Watila Longkumer, Proprietor of Naro Ki attended the session as special invitee. In her speech, she encouraged the youths to grab opportunities in private sector and become self employed. She added that the youths should not only look or hunt for white collar jobs. She encouraged the youths to come out of the shell and exhibit and explore his/her hidden talents in different fields.
On the last day, Er T. Nungsangtemjen attended the final as valedictory guest. He encouraged the youths to be more sincere and dedicated in their respective fields and also mentioned that youths should be a role model in the society. He donated fifty thousand to the JYO.
