JCYOK condemns Assam Rifles raid

Kohima, October 24 (MExN): A day after Assam Rifles refuted to allegations regarding its raid at a house in Jail colony, Kohima, the Jail Colony Youth Organization Kohima (JCYOK) today stated that the raid was not as simple as claimed by the Assam Rifles.

The organization in a statement issued by its president, Achubu Kuotsu and vice president, Kukhoto Venyo said that Assam Rifles jawans, accompanied by four other persons in civil dress covered under black mask and Nagaland Police personnel, had raided the rented house of Rudasa Curhah at Jail colony around 8:30 pm to 11:0 pm “without any rhyme or reason” on October 19.

While condemning the raid and harassment meted upon the neighborhood, the JCYOK stated that Rudasa is an effective member of JCYOK. “He is the Convener of the Action Committee of JCYOK, who is sincerely working hard for the maintenance of peace and order in the colony, and he is an innocent good citizen of India,” it vouched.

The organization further quoted eye witnesses and said that during the raid, Rudasa was blind- folded and threatened “during which he pleaded for his innocence and cried out for help.” Another person from the neighborhood was held by his neck with threats to beat him up, it alleged.

“Is this not harassment?” JCYOK questioned, adding “It is also surprising to learn that five ATM cards were taken away during the raid, may be stolen without the knowledge of the team, but the team is responsible for it.”

It asserted that the Assam Rifles violated the inviolable rights of a person to live with dignity and right to privacy. The organization also extended its full support to the demands made by Phusachodu Union Kohima and hoped for a speedy delivery of justice.
