JD (U), AAP prepare for Nagaland polls

• JD (U) to finalise party tickets today

• AAP asks all party candidates to be prepared

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 4 (MExN): Two relative underdogs in Nagaland State politics, the Janata Dal (U) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are going ahead with preparations for contesting in the upcoming polls to the Nagaland State Assembly.

The JD (U) is reportedly set to finalize their party ticket list for candidates on February 5. JD (U) Nagaland Convenor, NSN Lotha informed that the party ticket distribution will take place on February 6 at 9:00am.

It may be noted that the JD (U) has ended its alliance with the DAN, and has resolved not to enter into a pre poll alliance with any political party.

In a press statement, the JD (U) had stated that the last five years rule of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland led by the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) “has been not of governance but it was smeared with infightings for leadership.”

“This is witnessed by continuous swearing-in ceremonies much to the amusement and chagrin of the people. The games of throne was repeatedly and mercilessly played without taking into consideration the welfare of the public.

The responsibility that was bestowed upon the representatives as members of legislative assembly was thrown into the thin air,” the JD (U) stated.

It alleged that “many of the legislators had to innocently flock at the mercies of the political Lords who have no iota of feelings for stable governance. There was random corruption at all levels.”

It further claimed that the Janata Dal (U) with no legislator was a “namesake member of DAN.”

“In the brief light of the above, the JD (U) Nagaland, after a thorough analysis of the pros and cons towards the continuance in DAN, do hereby decides to pull out of DAN and will not to enter into pre-poll alliance with any party.

The JD (U) will contest the forthcoming general election to the 13m Nagaland Legislative Assembly on its own,” the party had said.

It informed that the party would field its own candidates in any constituencies, irrespective of whichever parties are in the fray. The JD (U) further expressed confidence that it would win a reasonable number of seats without any pre-poll alliance and “will deliver an exemplary statesmanship through its elected representatives safeguarded by vibrant and dynamic party hierarchy.”

The AAP, Nagaland meanwhile stated that in preparation to contest in the forthcoming general election, the party would assure the nomination of all the candidates in the next few days.

“The party is prepared with all the candidates who would contest in the election. The party informs all the intending candidates to remain prepared with all the required information,” a press note from the AAP Nagaland stated.

In this, the party encouraged the “common Nagas to join the party to work together for the social and political transformation in the State.”

“As part of Nagaland politics that will engage in the forth coming general election, AAP Nagaland will remain positive to respond to the current political situation with fully prepared,” it added.

The party said it is committed to “engage with the needs of the common people for political transformation in the State.”

“Seeing the deplorable political and social situation of the common people, AAP strongly aims to bring justice to the right of the common people by primary focus on social welfare scheme, roads, health centre and education. AAP assures the common people that if the party comes into power and if AAP leaders are elected, the above manifestos will be truly implemented,” it added.

“If the common people welcome the coming election,” AAP said it is well prepared to participate and nomination of the candidates will continue.
