KOHIMA, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) Nagaland State Unit and MLA Ar. Jwenga Seb welcomed the merger of the NPF with the NDPP, calling it a landmark move that strengthens Nagaland’s political landscape and reinforces the region’s collective commitment to lasting peace and development.
Seb said the merger transcends political alignment and reflects a shared vision of unity, echoing the legacy of pioneers like Jayaprakash Narayan, whose dedication to peace laid the groundwork for the ceasefire between the Naga people and mainland India. “Today, we build upon that legacy,” he added.
As a regional party grounded in the ethos of the Northeast and guided by principles of social democracy, secularism, and integral humanism, the JD (U) has consistently championed harmony and dialogue in Nagaland, Seb noted.
The JD (U) Nagaland unit, represented by a single MLA, is part of the opposition-less government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio of the NDPP-BJP alliance. Seb said the consensus-driven governance model, aimed at expediting the resolution of the protracted Indo-Naga political issue, now gains renewed momentum with the unification of Nagaland’s two major regional parties.
“The Dr Rio government’s opposition-less framework is a bold experiment in collaborative politics, focused on delivering justice and closure to the Naga people,” Seb said. “With NDPP and NPF merging alongside the BJP, we now possess an unparalleled regional coalition poised to accelerate the Indo-Naga political process. As part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and a stakeholder of the PDA government, JD (U) pledges full support to this unified front.”
Seb added that the merger aligns with his party’s core mission of fostering stability through inclusive dialogue and people-centric governance. “Unity is our strength. Together, NDPP, NPF, BJP, JD (U), and supporting parties can transform Nagaland’s aspirations into reality—ushering in an era of prosperity, reconciliation, and enduring peace.”
He also called on civil society organisations, including TUN, CTC, ENPO, and others, to unite under a single apex body, strengthening the negotiating parties’ efforts toward a Naga political solution.
