JD (U) Nagaland expresses concern, seeks clarification from CCNPI, BJP

Wokha, June 14 (MExN): The Janata Dal (U) Nagaland on Monday expressed concerns over the opening statement of Minister and Nagaland State BJP President Temjen Imna Along, after the formation of the Core Committee on Naga Political Issue (CCNPI).

“While, the working perimeter of the newly formed CCNPI is still yet to be declared, the statement of Along has already made it loud and clear the limitations of CCNPI,” the JD (U) observed in its press communiqué issued on June 14.

It reminded the Minister that the genesis of the political talks between the Government of India (GoI) and the Naga National Workers, especially with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) is based on three pre-mediated principles: “At the highest level, i.e. Prime Minister level, In the third Country and Without any Pre-conditions.”

The JD (U) opined that third party interference does not make sense since the talk is directly between GoI and the Naga National Workers. Instead of ameliorating the stalemate, the pre-conditions set by Along has vitiated the atmosphere of the ongoing talks, it added. The party accused the State BJP President of deliberately belittling the uniqueness of the Naga cause and undermining the agreed principles of the ongoing dialogue.

While acknowledging the allegiance of all the political parties to the Indian constitution, the JD (U) added “However, this does not imply that fact that the Naga Nationalism, which is borne of pre-independence of India, should be thrown to the thin air just to safeguard a temporary position.”

In this regard, the party sought clarification from the CCNPI as well as the BJP Nagaland on their position as to whether the precondition declared by Minister Along is of his personal statement or of the CCNPI or the BJP party.
