JLF to create ‘congenial atmosphere’ for implementation of peace accord

Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): The Joint Legislators' Forum (JLF) on Naga Political Issue has assured the NSCN (IM) that it will “not come in the way of any alternative arrangement that may come about due to the political solution” and create a “congenial atmosphere” for the “successful implementation of the peace accord.”

The JLF also assured the NSCN (IM) that it will “play the role of not only facilitator but proactive role” and appealed the national workers to “guide the JLF in such a manner that the JLF may positively contribute towards success of the negotiations in any manner possible.”

The JLF held a consultative meeting with the NSCN (IM) at the Rhododendron Hall, Chümoukedima, on Wednesday, with the meeting chaired by Zhaleo Rio, Speaker-in-Charge & Chairperson, JLF. It informed that “all 60 Members of the House have united under one banner by setting aside their political ideologies and party affiliations for the Naga political issue in the greater interest of the people and to work towards lasting peace.”

A JLF statement signed by Rio contained these points released to the press today through the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

The meeting appealed to the Government of India (GoI) to “understand and appreciate the Naga people who have made significant sacrifices to ensure that the ceasefire and peace talks are not affected.” It also appealed to the GoI to “work towards an early and acceptable political solution.”

Furthermore, the meeting called for “unity and understanding of all sections of the Naga people in order to strengthen the peace process and create an environment that would be conducive for a successful implementation of the peace accord.”
