Faculty and students during the Swachhata Pakhwada Celebration 2026 held at the JMC Hall in Mokokchung on August 10.
Mokokchung, August 10 (MExN): The NSS Unit of Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), Mokokchung, organised a Swachhata Pakhwada Celebration 2026 at the college on Monday under the theme "One Step Towards Cleanliness", with an emphasis on responsible waste management and sustainable habits.
The programme, sponsored by My Bharat, Mokokchung, Nagaland, was held at the JMC Hall and aimed at creating awareness among students about cleanliness and their individual responsibility towards maintaining a healthy environment.
The programme began with the National Anthem, followed by a keynote address by the NSS Programme Officer of JMC.
The speaker highlighted the volume of waste generated through everyday activities and stressed the need for individuals to adopt responsible waste management practices.
Students were encouraged to become more conscious of their daily habits and adopt cleaner and more sustainable lifestyles. The speaker emphasised that cleanliness requires consistent individual responsibility and that meaningful change begins with choices made by individuals.
The Swachhata Pledge was subsequently administered by Yimnayanger Aier, Counsellor, Jubilee Memorial College, reaffirming the students' commitment to maintaining cleanliness and contributing towards a healthier environment.
An inter-departmental quiz competition was also organised, with six teams comprising two members each participating.
The Political Science Department's Team 4 secured the first position with 85 points, followed by the History Department's Team 1 with 70 points and the Economics Department's Team 5 with 50 points.
The quiz was conducted by Imtimatsung, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
A painting competition was also held, with 12 participants expressing their ideas on cleanliness through artwork.
Maongkala (Serial No. 3) secured the first position, followed by Sentisotet (Serial No. 13) in second place and Merenzungla (Serial No. 5) in third place.
The paintings were judged by Tsungrosenla Jamir, HoD and Assistant Professor, Department of English; Lipokyanger Jamir, HoD and Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology; and Dr Shisachila Imchen, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
A special song was presented by Moameren and Sashiakum of BA 5, adding an entertainment segment to the programme.
College Principal Dr Imtiwati Jamir presented prizes to the winners of the quiz and painting competitions in recognition of their performance and creativity.
A vote of thanks was extended to the Principal, faculty members, NSS Programme Officer, quiz master, judges, participants, volunteers, students, My Bharat, Mokokchung, and the NSS Unit of Jubilee Memorial College for their support in organising the programme.
The celebration sought to reinforce the message that cleanliness is not merely an occasional activity but a responsibility that begins with individual choices and everyday habits.
