Health officials tend to a participant during the RRC Awareness and Blood Donation Camp at JMC in Mokokchung on September 19.
Mokokchung, September 20 (MExN): The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), in collaboration with the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), organised an RRC Awareness and Blood Donation Camp at the college on September 19 under the theme “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.”
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB), promote healthy and responsible practices, and encourage voluntary blood donation and community service.
The programme also provided students a platform to participate in awareness activities through an RRC Reel Competition.
The programme was chaired by Narola T Walling, BA III, and began with a welcome address by Dr Imtiwati Jamir, Principal, Jubilee Memorial College.
An HIV/AIDS awareness session was conducted by Sabo Aier, MICTC Counsellor, who sensitised students on HIV/AIDS and highlighted the importance of awareness, prevention, accurate information and responsible behaviour.
The session also addressed misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS and promoted a supportive and informed attitude towards the condition.
A TB awareness session was conducted by Dr Toshila, District Tuberculosis Officer, who highlighted the importance of awareness, early identification and timely treatment.
Students were sensitised on the significance of taking TB symptoms seriously and seeking appropriate medical care.
As part of the TB awareness and screening initiative, a free X-ray facility was also made available during the programme, enabling participants to undergo screening at no cost.
A major highlight of the programme was the screening of winning entries from the RRC Reel Competition held on the theme “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.” The reels showcased students' creativity in communicating health and social messages through digital media.
The Department of History secured the first position, followed by the Department of English in second place and the Department of Sociology in third.
A blood donation awareness session was conducted by Dr H Tsipongchem Sangtam, SMO, Blood Centre, Mokokchung. He highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and encouraged eligible individuals to contribute towards meeting the need for blood and supporting patients requiring transfusion.
A total of 14 students and faculty and staff members of JMC voluntarily donated blood.
The donors were Imnatemsu Kichu (1st semester), Temsumongba (3rd semester), Menangniba (5th semester), Sashikumzuk (5th semester), Sutsungmong (5th semester), Samuel (5th semester), Merenlong (3rd semester), Akumlong (3rd semester), Moameren (5th semester), Sakurepba (5th semester), Imtitemsu Jamir (3rd semester), Imlikokba Kichu (faculty), Yimnayanger Aier (faculty) and Solomon (staff).
The organisers said the programme brought together HIV/AIDS and TB awareness, student creativity and voluntary blood donation, with the participation of the 14 donors highlighting the spirit of service and social responsibility within the college community.
The programme sought to promote the message of “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.” by encouraging participants to rethink misconceptions, rebuild awareness and contribute positively to society.
