THE MUCH hyped training course at Institute of Tourism and Future Management Trend (ITFT), Chandigarh, and subsequent promises for placement in various undertakings to the youths of Nagaland continues to draw flak from the trainees, as the State government boasts of creating huge job opportunities through the scheme.

Nukusa, who is from 2nd batch of 2005 (May-July) disclosed that the real objective of the proprietors and the Institute is to extract maximum money from the gullible state governments like Nagaland, and not for imparting quality training. He alleged that the Institute never meant business when it comes to quality training. Even the 3 months integrated course has been reduced to 45 days, on contrary to their advertisement prior to the recruitment.

Nukusa also revealed that trainers were unqualified, and ironically, most of the teaching staffs are the trainees themselves. The well tailored curricula are far below standard, which is prepared just for the purpose of branding and packaging.

Moreover, the Naga trainees are not treated at par with the local students when it comes to placement. They are placed in companies, which are not well recognized or reputed.

“With the exception of few lucky Naga girls who got in Taj, Oberoi and handful in Amby Valley, the promise of providing placement in sectors like Airlines, Telecom and event management is a shattered dream”, Nukusa alleged.

Not only Nukusa, but many youths who had gone to the Institute for training had expressed dismay over the standard and prospects, and felt that if the government is serious enough necessary and corrective measures should be taken at the earliest instead of exploiting the youths with failed promises.

Mention may be made that ITFT-Chandigarh conducts a special programme in Airlines Management, providing skills for employment as Air Hostess, Flight Steward, Airlines/ Airport Ground Staff, Airport General Staff, Airlines City Office Staff. The course duration is for three months.

So far the government had sent about 790 youths to the ITFT. Although, many students have been reported to have come back after they found out that the Institute doesn’t proffer much scope as they had anticipated, the state government claimed that many youths who had completed the course got placement in hotels, and other private companies.

“Many have got job in star hotels, private companies etc, both in the country and abroad”, the state chief minister Neiphiu Rio had said on many occasion, while referring to the ITFT trainees.

The scheme is being patronized by North Eastern Council (NEC) with an aim to render job opportunity to the youths of the region. It is also not known how much amount the state is paying to the said Institute for the course.

Despite of all these complaints, the state government is still conducting interviews to send more youths to the same Institute. Currently, interviews are on at the ATI Kohima for selection of about 500 Naga youths for ITFT, Chandigarh.
