Dimapur, December 20 (MExN): A Hindi textbook for class X is said to be carrying a quoted scripture passage of John the Baptist and wrongly attributed to Jesus Christ. The Chakhro Baptist Pastor-Dikon Krotho today in a letter to the state’s Education department said that the mistake is in ‘Bharatiya sakritimen guru shukshri sanbhandh’ where it reads in page 58-59, ‘…people coming after me, my own followers are more important, that I have no right to even mend their shoes’. The passage was stated by John the Baptist in reference to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, according to John 1:27. But the publisher has misattributed the quote as to have been stated by Jesus. “This is a doctrine issue” the pastors stated.
The CBPDK stated this misattribution is a “heinous issue”, ‘unforgettable’ and ‘unforgivable’. Demanding a ban on the class X Hindi textbook, the Chakhro clergy said it is an open mockery and attack on the Christian faith as well as misleading for the upcoming generations in the educational institutions. The CBPDK also said the misattribution is a dilution of the purity of the Christian scriptures. Terming this to be an unpardonable “sin”, the CBPDK also challenged “Christian thinkers” against remaining silent at “such an evil fabric in our midst”.
