Kohima, July 30 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland and Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi flagged-off the Jotsoma-Khonoma BRO road at a ceremony held at Khonoma on July 30.
Addressing the gathering, Mukhi mentioned that Jotsoma-Khonoma road is expected to establish new bench-marks of functional efficiency and operational purpose for the villages and neighbouring districts. According to a press release issued by the PRO Raj Bahavan, the Governor pointed out that “the particular stretch of road should be the best in the state and a role model for all other roads in terms of quality and completion time.”
Informing that this particular BRO project will be under the supervision of Raj Bhavan, the Governor directed that “this rehabilitation works should be completed by strictly adhering to the specification mentioned in the project.” He further appealed and requested the organisation for early completion in a period time of five months.
Earlier, Mukhi commended that the natural beauty and the enormous potential of the great village as “so poignant and self-evident.” He was happy to learn that this village was the “last place where the Naga warriors had the last stand against the British way back in the year 1879.” He also applauded the community for the initiative, leading to be the first Green Village in India and maintained, “Khonoma is gradually gaining a lot of popularity as an ideal place for adventure and nature study, and has also become a model village for eco-tourism.”
Meanwhile, he appealed the citizens to respond to the call of Prime Minister (Har Ghar Tiranga) by hoisting the National flag at every household for three consecutive days, starting from August 13 to 15.
MLA & Chairman, DPDB Kohima, Keneizhakho Nakhro in his short address acknowledged the initiative of the Governor for the project and expressed that this special package is a remarkable achievement for the people of Jotsoma and Khonoma village. He mentioned that the long desire for a sustainable road was the dream of the community which has been flagged off today and was grateful that the Governor has shown concern in fulfilling the aspiration and desire of the people.
Nakhro also assured that the community will commit and stand to provide the best cooperation and utmost support to the organisation and the contractors.
He also reiterated about the 4 laning progress and appealed the highest authority to intervene for early completion of the project in the interest of the people.
Officiating Chief Engineer Sewak, US Nagwansi briefed on the project and reported that the improvement of initial stretch of 13.25 Km from Jotsoma to Khonoma was completed in the year 2017. But, due to heavy rains and plying of heavily loaded vehicles, surfacing layers got damaged.
He stated that the surfacing works are strengthening work suitable for present design traffic load. The composition is WBM-75 mm and two bituminous layers of DBM-65 mm and BC-30 mm thick and in addition, highway safety appurtenances are to be provided to make this road to desired NH standard.
He also added that PDC of this work including the ongoing three minor bridges is now pre-poned as March 18, 2023 to meet the target date of inauguration given by the Governor and assured that the organisation will complete the project at the highest level of quality possible and in good time.
Earlier in the programme, Chairman, Khonoma Village Council delivered the welcome address while short speeches were delivered by Chairman, Jotsoma Village Council and President, Western Angami Public Organization.
