A mud-soaked stretch of the PMGSY road between Jalukie Town and Kamdi Bazaar, where monsoon rains have left the under-construction road riddled with slush and potholes.
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2 (MExN): The Jalukie Pumling Youth Organisation (JPYO) has expressed concern over the condition of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road from Jalukie Town to Kamdi Bazaar, alleging prolonged delays in the execution of the project and urging the authorities to expedite its completion.
In a press release, the organisation said the agency responsible for the construction has "significantly delayed the completion of the project," while the onset of the monsoon has further worsened the condition of the road, causing hardship to residents and commuters.
According to the JPYO, several villages and institutions that depend on the road have been affected, including Panjang, Jalukie Ram, Jalukie Kam, Beisumpuikam, Samziuram, the Veterinary College and the ZBCC Prayer Centre. It stated that students, villagers and other commuters have been facing "tremendous inconvenience and suffering" due to the poor condition of the road.
The organisation urged both the executing agency and the implementing authority overseeing the PMGSY project to prioritise the work and ensure that the road is completed at the earliest.
As an immediate relief measure, the JPYO called on the agency to lay Granular Sub-Base (GSB) material along the affected stretch within two weeks from the date of the press release to improve road conditions for commuters.
The organisation also raised concerns over the drainage infrastructure constructed along the route, stating that several sections had already overflowed during the ongoing monsoon season.
"A proper and efficient drainage system must therefore be put in place to prevent further damage to the road and to avoid similar occurrences in the future," it said.
The JPYO further cautioned that if the agency failed to take the necessary corrective measures, it would be "compelled to take its own course of action in the larger interest of the public."
It maintained that the prolonged delay in completing the project has already caused "immense hardship" to the affected villages and institutions and asserted that any further delay would not be acceptable.
