JALUKIE AUGUST 24 (MExN): The “Forest Survey Ridge” Jalukie, a mesa-like pinnacle of table-land which is situated well above the valley inhabitants, give a panoramic bird’s eye view of the valley and adjoining neighborhood and serves as a favorite spot for picnic lovers of the area.
However, to the utter dismay of landowners, who are undertaking a noble works of establishing a “Model Village” along the adjacent conjoin, it was observed that some ‘wayward and careless elements’ have “become susceptible to unlawful activities” under the influence of vices. If unbridled activities goes unchecked in and around the area which is a hotbed for merry and happy-go-lucky youngsters, the area could well be headed for destruction.
In view of this, the JSU (N) and JPYO (N) in a joint venture has decided to keep a check on those unscrupulous elements “breeding immoral and questionable practices” in and around the region and would not hesitate to take action deemed fit against the violators. The ridge which is manned by the forest department, has historical importance. In the ancient times, the people of Jalukie burnt pine branches to signal eminent dangers atop this ridge. The signal is received by the residents of old Jalukie (upper) who in turn take steps to avert impending onslaught of enemies and till today, it is locally called “Keleilojang” (Range of pines or ‘The pine range’).
