Imphal, March 1 (NNN): A combined team of Imphal West police commando, 116 Bn. BSF and 5 Assam Rifles arrested two cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) in a span of 12 hours with incriminating articles.
While briefing media persons at Imphal West commando complex after the operation, the Dy. SP (Cdo), Imphal West, S Ibomcha said that 38 years old Th Chitaranjit Singh aka Tangba of Heirangoithong Awang Leikai in Imphal West district was detained at around 10:30 pm during a frisking and checking operation conducted by the team at Tera near the gate of Oriental College in Imphal West yesterday. He had come on a Honda Activa.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of Th Somokanta aka Tomba Singh of Heirangoithong Awang Maibam Leikai from his residence with a lot of incriminating articles at 10 am today.
They both have disclosed to working under Th Sorojini Devi, 37, w/o Subhash Dev Burman of Heirangoithong Awang Maibam Leikai and one Malemnganba of KCP, said the police. The police further said that the arrests were made based on specific inputs provided by 23 Assam Rifles that some members of KCP were going to lob hand grenade. A Chinese made hand grenade was recovered from Chitaranjit Singh during the frisking operation yesterday.
The police seized the following items from the possession of the arrested persons: four numbers of Chinese hand grenades, 13 live rounds of 9 mm caliber, 23 live rounds of 7.65 mm caliber, 2 live rounds of long range cartridge, one magazine of 7.65 mm caliber, 7 extortion demand letters of KCP, one Honda Activa, silver color bearing regd no. MN-01Q-5132 and one mobile handset with SIM card.
