Kiphire, May 21 (MExN): Under the theme, “United Colours of Us,” the Inter-Kiphire District Cricket Tournament, an under-23 competition organised by the Kiphire District Cricket Association (KDCA), commenced today at Kiphire HQ.
In the low-scoring inaugural match, Knight Riders defeated Oasis Club by 8 runs. Batting first, the Riders scored a modest 82 runs, but Oasis Club could not chase the target and were bowled out for 74 runs. Earlier, gracing the inaugural programme as the special guest, Akheto V Sangtam, Executive Chairman of the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), said that such tournaments are an opportunity for the youths to mould themselves to be disciplined in all walks of life. Stressing the tournament’s theme “United Colours of Us,” he said that in a multi-tribe district like Kiphire, such initiatives could help bridge the gap and foster greater unity.
He also extended appreciation to the team from Pungro Sub-division for taking part in the tournament and said that the KDCA’s outreach to the sub-division represents its aim to bring all youths into a collective oneness. “The USSC shall always extend its support to the youths of Kiphire district irrespective of communities,” Sangtam added.
KDCA President Justin Khatomong T highlighted the association’s activities, and thereafter the tournament was declared open by the special guest.
