DIMAPUR NOV 19 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU) while informing of its decision not to part with any portion of the Dimapur Government College land towards the construction of a bi-lane road to the Dimapur stadium, today asserted that it would be compelled to take its own course of action if any objection was raised against the joint decision taken by the DNSU, senior leaders from both the said college and constituent unit leaders at a meeting held today.
Obed Yimchunger, President of DNSU told The Morung Express that it would be compelled to follow its own course of action if the any section including the Government does not accept the decision. “The decision taken today is final and binding. We strongly object to the construction of the road by slicing away land belonging to the students and we would be forced to follow with appropriate response should the decision be objected to” Yimchunger said. He expressed strong discontent that an educational site was being compromised for the purpose of a stadium adding that the government should instead promote the neglected college by building classes, maintaining college infrastructure and evicting all encroachers and illegal land Patta-holders issued by the government. He said that it was highly inappropriate that the college’s land was being sliced for roads when the college needs promotion. “We want to make it clear that we are not against development or setting up of infrastructure. We are only against compromising land belonging to the students” he said adding that it would not be tolerated.
On the query if any assurance had been given by the government on the issue the student leader said that the union had met Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio sometime back. However, he said the CM had reacted by telling the delegation that if they did not want development, the project would be shifted to other district. “We feel it was highly inappropriate and immature of the Chief Minister to react in such a way, considering his stature” the student leader said. He also informed that just recently the CM reportedly directed the H&TE department to have a sitting to resolve the construction of the said road. “However, when we contacted the Director of H&TE, Edward Lotha, he said no such directives from the CM were received, till now” Yimchunger said.
“They should concentrate on building the classes and promote the institution instead of slicing educational lands” he told this paper.
