KOHIMA, DECEMBER 11 (MExN): Minister of Power KG Kenye along with officials from the Department of Power, Nagaland attended the 25th North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) meeting hosted by NTPC Limited in Kolkata on December 9.

The meeting, which was organized by NERPC, addressed many critical issues of power sector in the North-Eastern States and deliberated towards achieving the challenges and also planning for optimum development of the power sector in the region, a press statement issued by Er. Rukongutuo Suohu, Superintending Engineer, Dimapur Electrical Circle informed.

NERPC Chairman and Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein chaired the meeting. During the meeting, Kenye spoke on the power issues and development plans for power sector of Nagaland.

He highlighted that the strict prequalifying criteria and the result evaluation framework of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) is mostly suitable for DISCOMS and is difficult to fulfill the criteria for small states like Nagaland which depends on 100% budgetary support from the State Government.

Kenye also impressed the Forum to expedite the process for up-gradation of SCADA/EMS in North-East. He also brought to the notice of the Forum that the existing Line Man Training Centre (LMTC) at Dimapur was set up during the 1970’s and is ill equipped and outdated. He therefore requested for establishment of state-of-the-art training centre in all North-Eastern States within the Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening (CBIS) of NERPSIP project.

The meeting was attended by Power Ministers of North-Eastern States including Nandita Gorlosa (Assam), Abu Taher Mondal (Meghalaya), Ratan Lal Nath (Tripura), Arunachal’s Power Advisor Balo Raja, NERPC Member Secretary Kishore B. Jagtap and officers of the central and state governments and representatives from central power sector and state power utilities. Officials led by Engineer-in-Chief Er Moa Aier, and Er.
