Keviliekho Zumvü emerged champion of the 19th Nagaland Chess Championship organized by Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) at Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) office Complex in Kohima on July 21.

Zumvü emerged champion of the open category while Salhouto Nyekha, Sede Nagi and Seyiekhrietuo Mere bagged the first, second and third runners-up respectively.

They will be representing the state at the ensuing National Chess Championship to be held in Pune, Maharashtra in August.

In the U-18 category, Shenikali Hesso of Model Higher Secondary School Kohima bagged the top position while Pulonito Hesso, Jesse P. Chishi & Viboka Awomi won the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

In the Under 14 category, Jitihto Nyekha from Touch of Hope School Chumoukedima won the first position with Arho Rupreo, Neipedezo Metha, Thejasezo Metha and Mereh Doulo bagging the second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Individual awardees – Best female participant went to Tsesam, Youngest Player to Domian Lyngdoh and Oldest Player to K. Sekhamo.

Chief arbiter of the championship, Mughaho Awomi made the official declaration of winners while NCA vice president P. Khezhie tendered the vote of thanks.
