The Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department, Nongozo Rikha today opined that in the past, many people had the fear and conception that government jobs are bought by money or needs to be acquired through political backing. However, today changing mental perception is taking place as many young people from our own villages and regions are shining in exams through fair and competitive means, he observed.

He was speaking as the guest speaker of Kezoma Village Students’ Union (KVSU) 55th annual general conference cum sports meet 2023 held under the theme ‘Curiosity, Endurance, Perseverance’ in Kezoma village, Kohima today.

Dwelling on the importance of education, Rikha noted that everyone is after education and wealth, and without education it was difficult to survive in society. While adding this region was still politically disadvantaged when viewed closely, Rikha however said ‘today the government has come up transparently to provide employment through competitive examination.’ He said different tier of examination like NPSC for higher grade government services and NSSB for Grade 3 and 4 have come into existence making many dreams come true.

“This political disadvantage,” the officer lamented “was also one of the reasons why the region does not have any person as chairman of boards or commission.” In this regard, he, asked the people not to be disheartened and not to be dependent on political power for job or money but make terse efforts to build careers in different platforms that are not only in the government sector. This, he said, cannot be achieved by being complacent or having lackadaisical attitude.

“Whatever scope of study, whether science, commerce, arts or vocational or professional courses one chooses to study,” he said, “it does not depend on how much scope the subjects have but it depends on how well and serious one takes our studies.”

The speaker observed that one reason for failure of sustenance in various fields was due to lack of consistency in doing so.

“Nagas in general and Angamis, be it in business, entrepreneurship etc in particular lacked consistency, endurance and perseverance.”

He said to do away with this laidback attitude and encouraged students to work hard, have strong determination and motivation, and move out of their comfort zone, and adapt to changing circumstances and scenarios.

Meanwhile, he asked those who have cleared competitive exams not to stop their endeavours there but guide the younger students and aspirants, and provide them with motivation and encouragement.

The speaker also said a long term approach which is consistent is needed to address the key to successes. “Long term approach is not about one day career guidance,” he added.

Failing, becoming nobody, Rikha underscored ‘makes the person a burden to the society because our parents sacrifice and makes huge efforts to educate.’ He also urged the students’ attendance to be humble and be prayerful and asked parents also need to support children through prayer.

Zadeho Rikha, Vice President, Angami Public Organization (APO), administered Elder Blessing for the students’ community.

Lorhienu Tase, Assistant Professor, (UPSC 2017, UPSC 2019, NPSC CTSE 2022) and Neidiesüle Naki, SDO, NPSC CTSE, 2023 shared their journey. Kezoma Village Council, Chairman, Kikrosa Naki shared greetings.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Er Kekungol Mekro, Finance Secretary. The presidential address was delivered by Süvito Mekro.
