Khadi institutions in Nagaland has generated over Rs 65 lakh sales, states KVIC Chairman

Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Manoj Kumar during his visit to Dimapur stated that Khadi institutions in Nagaland have produced over Rs 65 lakh and sales of Rs 47 lakh as on December 31, 2023. ‘This has given employment to 60 artisans,’ he said. 

These artisans are experiencing a notable transition, with increased livelihoods and employment aligning with the Government's strong dedication for the well-being of Khadi artisans to empower the masses aligning with “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra,” he stated. 

He further viewed that Khadi has become a symbol of “Aatmanirbhar 4Bharat” with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi being the guiding lamp of taking ahead the development of KVIC. For which Nagaland’s KVIC plays a significant role for achieving these targets. 

The Chairman was speaking during the distribution ceremony for eneficiaries from Nagaland who were provided with machineries and toolkits under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana during a programme held here at Senden Riju, Dimapur on March 1. During the programme the chairman handed over about 20 Agarbatti pedal operated machinery, 20 Handmade & Dana Making machinery and equipment to the artisans. 

He further said that the Khadi and Village Industries sector aims to save traditional industries in rural areas and improve the livelihoods of poor artisans, including tribes, SC/ST and Women.  

“Khadi is not just thriving, but generating substantial employment and economic empowerment,” he claimed.  

The event was attended by representatives from Business Association of Nagas(BAN), NKVIB, officials of KVIC & State KVIB, and government of Nagaland. 

On a side note, with the Lok Sabha Elections only a month away, the programme saw huge numbers of portraits of Narenda Modi put up across the venue.
