First joint meeting of Kohima-based tribal students’ bodies held
Kohima, April 23 (MExN): The Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) organised the 1st Joint Coordination Meeting of the Kohima based tribal students’ bodies on April 22 at KVC Hall, Kohima Village, marking a step towards fostering unity and collaboration among the various student communities in Kohima.
The meeting witnessed the participation of representatives from student’s bodies of Phom, Pochury, Kuki, Ao, Lotha, Sumi, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Sangtam, Zeliang, Rengma, Chang, Mao, Khiamniungan, and Konyak, along with representatives from the Gorkha Students’ Union and Northern Angami Students’ Union.
During the meeting, KVSU highlighted its key initiatives and activities, including the Night School programmes across the four khels, literary events, and various educational and community-oriented programmes undertaken for the welfare of students.
The gathering served as an important platform where leaders from different tribal student bodies came together to discuss key issues concerning the student community.
During the meeting, representatives from various communities raised serious concerns regarding the present Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, drug abuse, mental health issues, and the importance of maintaining peace and harmony among the Naga communities.
The meeting further emphasized unity among diverse communities, reinforcing the idea that despite differences, all share a common vision for progress, cooperation, and mutual understanding.
It was also clarified that the initiative is not intended to form a new union, but rather to create a platform for dialogue, coordination, and continued engagement among student leaders.
KVSU president Khriesaneikuo Kire highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in guiding and empowering the younger generation.
The programme was chaired by Kiyakhrienuo Solo, General Secretary, KVSU while vote of thanks was proposed by Vizovolie Rame, Vice President, KVSU.
