Kohima, November 4 (MExN): A businessman from Kohima, who was reportedly kidnapped on October 26, was rescued from Dimapur by a combined team of the South Police Station, Kohima and Dimapur Police personnel on November 2.

In a press release, the PRO of Kohima Police informed that a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the issue was first received by the South PS Kohima on October 29. The FIR stated that the businessman, identified as one Anil, was abducted on October 26 by "unknown persons in Dimapur."

In this regard, a case was registered, and during the preliminary investigation, it was ascertained that the victim had traveled to Dimapur on October 26 after being contacted by "certain individuals from a Naga Political Group for the settlement of a monetary issue," stated in the PRO's release.

The monetary issue stemmed from a "close relative of the victim defaulting on a loaned amount and absconding thereafter," it added.

Subsequently, the victim was rescued from Dimapur town by a combined team of Dimapur and Kohima police.

The Kohima police informed that further investigation is in progress regarding the matter but did not mention whether any arrests were made in connection with the case.

It must be noted here that the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) condemned the alleged kidnapping of one of its members, identified as one Anil Choudhary, on Friday, and demanded “immediate return and safety of the abductee.”
