District Executive Force (DEF) Kiphire observe the 30th National Road Safety Week at Public ground Kiphire attended by hundreds of students from different schools, Taxi Drivers Union and other NGOs on February 8.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, SDPO Khuzah Jurry said the objective of the campaign is to sensitize the citizens and drivers about rules and regulations as the responsibilities life with the citizens to follow the rules and execute the same with the sole aim of protecting all road-users.
Citing the statistic Khuzah Jurry mentioned common cause of road accident is due to drunken driving, wrong over taking, sudden turning, bad and defective roads and over speeding as a result of which more than 1.3 million people die in road accident every year and between 20 and 50 million are left injured or disabled in which India account for about 10 percent of the road accident fatalities worldwide. He also added that the cost of road accident in India cost around 3-4 percent of GDP.
Stressing on the importance of helping victims of road accident SDPO said, “Supreme Court of India gave law to protect Good Samaritans. The purpose of a good Samaritan law is to provide legal protection to bystanders who come to the aid and rescue of victims of road crashes.”
Also participating in the event Sievituo Solo, Team Leader of the Project 72 hours expressing his appreciation towards the people of Kiphire for banning the use of plastic in Kiphire called for maintaining dustbin in Kiphire town to properly manage waste management. The programme was chaired by Officer In-charge Kiphire Police Station, Vikiehieto Kennao.
